A specially commissioned model is once again being prepared for the annual Cobham London Bus Museum's Spring Gathering, this year planned for Sunday, April 10. The 2011 theme will be 'RF 60', celebrating 60 years since the first RF type entered London Transport service, so there's no prizes for guessing the choice of subject matter.
The Exclusive First Editions (EFE) 1:76 scale AEC RF Class model, in red London Transport livery, will be depicted on route 215 to Ripley via Esher Street, Cobham. It will carry fleet number RF 505, with garage plate K1 and registration number MMX 482. And thanks to EFE we are able to bring you a first look at the pre-production sample of this highly collectable model (see above).
The production run will be limited to 360 pieces and models will be available exclusively from the Cobham Marquee on the day, priced at £27 to Members (on production of a membership card) and £30 to non-members.
Any stock that remain unsold on April 10 will then be offered at the usual events that the Cobham Shop attends, or alternatively via mail order*. *Please call the museum on Weds afternoons on 01932 868665 and ask for the Shop Manager. Alternatively, email firstname.lastname@example.org Postage and packing will be charged at £3.50 for the first model and £2.50 for each additional model thereafter.
Returning to the event itself, this will be held at Dunsfold Aerodrome near Cranleigh in Surrey, as the Redhill Road site used in previous years is now closed while the museum relocates lock, stock and barrel to Brooklands this year.
As well as the usual mix of heritage bus services, horse bus rides, an extensive collectors' market and a refreshments court, vintage taxis from the London Taxi Association, Traction engines, and a selection of preserved Post Office, commercial and emergency vehicles - including police motorcycles, will be on display.
The gates to RF60 will open at 10am and bus services will operate to the event site from the railway stations at Guildford and Horsham every 30 mins during the day, with services more frequent at the start and end of the day. Buses will also operate services around the airfield and surrounding area.
Entry will be charged at £10 for adults, with up to two accompanying children under the age of 16 being admitted free of charge; this fee includes an event programme and multiple rides on all bus services, except horse buses, throughout the day.
